Progress

So the Idea is now Skating Canberra

So im going to well known spots around canberra and getting shots skating them.

So here is some shots i shot yesterday at Mt Anslie and one at the war memorial. I also chucked in another one from a rail at hawker.

The Mt Anslie ones are heaps good and i am very happy with but the war memorial is very average and was extremely hard to shot as it was almost pitch black and when i shot it with a long exposure shane would get very opaque and look like a ghost.

I still have alot of editing to do with theses photos but i will do that to the ones i will be using. I just need to do things such as taking out the sign and dodge and burning etc.

New Idea for book

The new idea is still a bit blurry and i am still unsure how this will end up in a book??

The idea is around my skating lifestyle

It is actually rollerblading but not your average recreational rollerblader, it is actually really embarrassing when people ask you what you do and you say your a rollerblader.
People straight away thing of rec skaters in purple spandex rolling around the lake.

Here is just a little preview of what rollerblading is sort of about if you do not know yet.

Im not sure how i am going to use this into my assignment but everyone seemed very persistent that i should do skating for my artist book. I am still unsure how people will take in this idea because rollerblading like this is such a foreign thing and a shock to most people. They cant comprehend that people can do things like this on rollerblades

The best thing about rollerblading is everyone is everyones best friend it doesn't matter what culture your from what clothes you wear, you could put a skater that is black wears the most gangster baby clothes and chuck a skinny little white kid with ultra tight pants and heaps of piecings and they will be the best of friends as long as they are rolling.

So no you know a little bit about rollerblading you can understand my artist book ideas

IDEAS

Siliva has provided some input for presentation as a flip book

I believe this a good idea but i am finding it hard to try and tell the story of street skating within this.

I really would like to incorporate the good with the bad of rollerblading because these are all part of being a part of a rollerblader

GOODS

Landing tricks - putting ur body on the line
Mates
Lifestyle - Skitching
Competitions

BADS

Getting kick off street spots by security and the harsh way they usually treat rollerbladers
Getting kicked off by police
The battle between skateboarders and rollerbladers

There are many more but i can not think at the moment haha

I could defiantly do a flip book but it feels like there is too much to tell for narrative than just a flip book of tricks

I think i want to do a magazine style book but i am not sure how i will set out this yet or what i will put into it but i know

Here are some photos i have taken already that i may use but i think i need more documentary style images rather than these very controlled lighting and images of just tricks

I will go out and take more photos that show the characters that are involved with skating such as

The skaters
the security guards kicking us off
The people we meet skating streets
and document everything including with rollerblading

Idea Ditched

Idea for artist book

Note that this is still an idea and i may not do this at all.

I couldn't think of anything to do for a story i have tried to think of things that i would love to write and take photos for.

I couldn't think of anything so i figured i would tell my story.
I am coming up to my 20th birthday and i figured i will tell my story so far.

Its called

" 20 Memories "

I will write down 20 of my fondest memories up to this point in my life, hopefully mostly from each year of my life as far as i can remember.

I will present the book as something very special and precious maybe get it hand made and printed on textured papers. I will no necessarily present the book as first person so other people can relate to the book.

number 20 will be something into the future as it will not be a memory, i could do something maybe to do with creating a memory.

Note again that this is just an idea

some of the memories will maybe be

First time i rode my bike without training wheels
First love
First heartbreak
Favourite Christmas
Favourite Birthday Party
First time i ate dirt
The day i learnt how to surf
First day of school
Moving schools being the new kid
Finding out i was going to have a brother
etc

I will also add a small story with each header to tell the story with each photo

I will add to this list and choose which ones to use with which numbers if i decide to use this idea as my book

This moving portrait was extremely different but was very intriguing. We sat there for a good 20 minutes and watched the whole thing. The whole movie was just random young teenagers dancing around to hardstyle chewing on gum like they were on some hard drugs, smoking cigarettes and drinking.

I believe she was tring to say that the youth are destroying themselves using drugs. It was very weird and sometimes a bit funny what they are wearing and how hey dance.

I found this one very interesting as it was an artist book as we are about to create and it was a very good one. I would love to do something like this with mine. Id like to do a book with a story that is very conceptual, that still says a story that makes you think but says it very in a very subtle way.
